Conte Visitarino Wine Dinner with Winemaker
Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Next to Burgundy, France, the Lombardia region in Italy has the longest pedigree of Pinot Noir (Pinot Nero) cultivation. The Oltrepo Pavese area within the region with its lime based, marl and calcareous soil, and the shift in temperatures from day tonight, provides the best growing conditions for the grape. The terroir coupled with the region’s long tradition of growing the varietal, means you will find some of the most structured and elegant Pinot Nero here in Italia.
The Vistarino family are a noble family in Lombardia. The family’s lineage in the region of Pavia, Lombardia, traces back to the 1600s. Their property is located in Rocca de’Georgi, part of Oltrepo Pavese and they are the first and therefore, most experienced grower of Pinot Noir in the region. Their first vines date back to 1850 and they are also credited with the creation of the first “Metodo Classico” sparking wine in Italy, dating to back to 1865.
Tonight we will be graced with the presence of assistant Winemaker, Ottavia Visitarino. She will present 8 wines from the family’s estate as we enjoy a 5 course, Lombardia inspired menu.
Looking forward to seeing you all there,
Emilia & James
